Description
Overview:
Art & the Bible Camp is a space where children explore creativity, both as a process and a product, through the visual arts in conversation with scripture. This week-long arts experience introduces various media and techniques as ways to amplify and interpret scripture. It also introduces scripture as a rich point of origin for the visual arts. Projects included in the curriculum are both individual and community-wide, acknowledging the potential of both personal vision and collaboration. Students move from creating quick pencil sketches during one part of the day to engaging with a multi-step project for the whole of the week.
Art & the Bible Camp is intended for children who have completed 1st-6th grades, though the lessons and art may be adapted for other ages. The curriculum is written for six-hour sessions over five days, though the material provides ideas for adapting for mid-week or Sunday morning programming, retreats, and shortened week-long programming.

Theme:
The Bible is filled with a wide array of images for God. Each one provides an opportunity to explore a different facet of the One whom we worship and adore. Art & the Bible Camp invites children to catch a glimpse of the greatness of God by exploring the various names and images of God in scripture so that our understanding of the One who created us and loves us is deepened. Each day a different Hebrew name for God, the attributes the names represent, and the stories that embody that characteristic are examined.
